Wood Scrapbooks!

I just finished making four 16.5” x 18.5” wood scrapbooks for the Brentwood Fire Department.  They turned out really nice.

I don’t like the classic wood book style with the post for the pages and two small hinges mounted on top.  It isn't very user friendly and can take away for the beauty of the finished.

I came up with the design of using two piano hinges on the top and bottom, inside the book.  I mounted the hinges to two strips of wood that hold the pages of the scrapbook together and then to the top and bottom covers.  All the hinges are routed into the wood for a nice smooth connection when all the parts are put together.

I also routed out an indention into the top of each book to mount the Fire Departments Badge in the center.

I made one out of Black Walnut, two out of Oak, and one out of Elm.  All were made from locally grown trees here in Tennessee.

Custom Engraved Baby Rattle

I had my first engraved baby rattle request.  I don't know why I hadn’t thought of offering the option of engraving sooner.  It is a great way of adding a personal to the baby rattles.

Display Case

I finished making a folding Display Case for my Baby Rattles.  It turned out really nice.

I needed some way to display the little wooden projects I have made in a more secure way.  This will help out when I go to any craft shows and events.

Plus it also shows that I am not limited to just baby rattles and other little wooden trinkets.

Wood Book!

Wood Photo Album

I just finished making my first wood book.  I am going to use it as a photo album or portfolio of my work.  The Brentwood Fire Chief asked me if I could make him three custom wood photo albums.  He showed me a picture of what he wanted and I told him that would be no problem.  However I had few design ideas to make the wood album more user-friendly.  So I told him I would make a sample to show him my wooden book design.

Bread Box

I finally finished the bread cutting tray that slides under the bread box.  I think it turned out really well.

Baby Rattles

I came up with the idea for the wood baby rattle after my wife became pregnant.  I was looking for some ideas of toys online that I could make for my son and stumbled upon rattles made from one solid piece of wood.

I made a few like what I found online; long handle on one end and two rattles on the other.  It was a good design but when my son was really young (2 months old or so) he would hit himself in the head or in the eye.  So I came up with the design of one rattle on top and bottom and the handle in the middle.  I call them baby dumbbells or baby shake weights rattles.

First Design

7 Months

I am in the process of making as many baby rattles as I can.  I am shooting for 7 or 8 rattles a week.  Once I build up my selection I am going to start selling then in a few local stores.

My selection so far!

Recent Project

Here are a few pictures of one of my recent projects.

It is a Walnut and Maple Bread Box.

I will be adding a pullout Cutting Tray to catch the bread crumbs at a later date.
